My formula f is still being worked on, but I didn’t want to miss my home race at the newly expanded Pittsburgh International Race Complex, so I rented a car in the big-brother F2000 class. On-board videos like this will be the meat of my channel, so I’d appreciate any comments and criticism. Hopefully I didn’t say anything too stupid and was able to give some insight into what it was like to be in the race.

Interesting to see a different perspective on the course. I did a trackday there on my bike last month, and will be doing another at the end of August.
The transitions between the old course and the new one kept messing me up. You can take T1 much, much faster now. Also, I kept blowing what used to be T5 as a result of how much faster you come into it.
Did you have any problems with the car getting upset at the crest of the hill after T2, or after you come up the steep hill on the back section? On my bike at least those two parts sent me into a wheelie constantly.

I never felt like I got anywhere near fast enough in T1. The apex is also waay earlier than it used to be. T2 in a car is a complete non-event. It seems like turn 1 at Laguna Seca, where for the cars it’s ho-hum but I’ve been told that for bikes it’s the ballsiest corner on the track
I got a lot of understeer at the old turn 6 and I kept having an engine-cut out issue, but I had massive understeer everywhere.
How do you take T16 in a bike? I imagine it must be hard to get all that spinning mass to lean over.

Yep it took me a while to build up the confidence to just bomb T1 and drift out to the right, but everybody else that rode the old track had the same problem.
T16 isn’t that bad once you get used to it. Smaller bikes will pin the throttle at the top of the hill and hold it until the braking zone going into T17. I’m on a 1000, so I usually roll off the throttle before the turn and then get back on it a bit to make sure not to overload the front tire. According to my speedo I’m doing about 120 thru there.
My best laptime for the full course was a 2:09.

DEAR GOD THEY FINALLY DID IT!!! Sorry, I tracked there YEARS ago, and I can remember them talking about their plans, and then it folded.. and well you know the story. But I lost track of it, and how the expanded. Awesome!
I loved the video as well!

30 minutes is a bit long. Makes it tough to sit thru the whole thing. Anyway to cut things down to just the highlights on the next one?
I’m guessing you rented thru Walko? Any reason why you guys didn’t do any setup work ahead of time or at the track as I imagine all the equipment was there? Seems a bit wasteful to be paying for a seat if the car is no good.

I tried to model this video after video game ‘let’s plays’ like this one, and they’re regularly 25-30 minutes. In the future I may cut out parts if they’re just laps of an empty track but I’d like to keep the race videos over 15 minutes. I don’t think the old rule of keeping YouTube videos short applies anymore, there are tons of popular content that are longer.
Plus you already know all the stuff I’m talking about anyways. =o)
The deal came together on Thursday, I was expecting my car to be ready but since John never answers his phone I was kept in the dark. The one I drove is owned by Brendan Puderbach. My dad and I had to pick it up at John’s shop with our gokart trailer. Since it was my first time driving in 3 years I wasn’t too concerned about the lack of set-up, I consider it a victory that I was able to get up to speed to the point that the car was holding me back.
What about you? Will you be on track any time soon?

Sounds like a rough start to the weekend but at least you were still able to put something together. Better to be out there than sitting on the sidelines again.
I’ve been running regionals mostly. Two events so far. Grattan in June and locally two weeks ago. I missed out on the Mid Ohio F2000 event because work got in the way. I wasn’t able to put together the testing schedule I needed to get a grasp on the radials. Plus with putting together a runoffs program for next year it made more sense to start testing and figuring out the car for next season.
